At Coconu, our product availability process is slightly different from traditional retail. Because we work directly with our suppliers' live inventories, we don’t hold our own warehouse stock. This allows us to offer a wide variety of the latest products, but it also means that availability can change rapidly.
This guide explains how Coconu’s availability system works, what happens when products sell out, and how you can make smart shopping choices to minimize the risk of unavailable items.
Why Coconu Doesn’t Hold Stock
Coconu operates on a supplier-direct model, meaning products are sourced directly from partner brands as orders come in. This allows us to:
- Offer a wider product selection.
- Keep costs lower by avoiding storage fees.
- Provide the latest styles faster.
The trade-off? We can’t always guarantee availability until we process your order.
When Products Become Unavailable
Products can become unavailable due to:
- Permanent sellouts (no future restock planned).
- Temporary backorders (awaiting restock from the supplier).
Our system automatically flags sold-out items, and you can’t add those products to your cart.
Understanding Backorders
If a product is temporarily out of stock, it may go on backorder. In this case:
- We email you to notify you.
- Most products restock within 1-2 weeks.
- We reserve backordered items with a paid reservation, which guarantees supply — but these can’t be canceled unless they’ve been backordered for over 2 weeks.
You can also request a split shipment to receive in-stock items first (additional shipping fees may apply).
What Happens If an Ordered Product Sells Out?
If a product sells out after you order, here’s what happens:
- We email you with an update.
- You receive store credit or a refund.
- You can use your credit to replace the product with another item if you choose.
We regret when this happens, but unavailable items don’t allow cancellation of the rest of your order.
Large Restock Orders
If you’re interested in ordering 100+ pieces of a sold-out design, Coconu can request a custom restock directly with the brand. Contact us to explore this option.
Seasonal Availability Patterns
Product availability shifts throughout each season:
- New Releases (0-2 weeks) – High stock levels.
- 2-6 Weeks Old – Stock begins to thin; popular items restock.
- Older than 6 Weeks – Higher chance of sold out items.
- Previous Seasons – Most at risk of being unavailable.
How to Check Product Age & Stock Risk
To estimate availability risk, look for:
- “New” Badges – Usually well-stocked.
- Publication Date – Shown on product pages.
- Filters – Use filters to browse only the current season.
Late Season Shopping Risks
Near the end of a season, suppliers stop restocking. New items release in limited quantities, and older items often sell out quickly.

Handling Pre-Orders with Customers
If you allow your customers to pre-order products, be transparent that Coconu can’t guarantee availability until your order is processed. For certainty, wait until your stock physically arrives.
Special Handling for Product Sets
If you plan to sell products as matching sets (like coordinating tops and bottoms), notify us when ordering. We’ll try to ensure both items are available — though this only works for sets within the same brand.
